Totect - The Treatment for Anthracycline Extravasation

ANTHRACYCLINE EXTRAVASATION...what is it?
When an anthracycline (a type of chemotherapy drug) goes into the tissue or leaks outside of a vein, damage to the tissue can occur. This is called an anthracycline extravasation. An anthracycline extravasation is a rare event that may have serious consequences. In addition to causing local tissue damage, an anthracycline extravasation may cause damage to the nerves, tendons, muscle, and joints. In some cases, surgical procedures are required to remove the damaged tissue and a skin graft or flap may be needed. If an anthracycline extravasation occurs, healthcare professionals should initiate treatment as soon as possible after the extravasation in order to minimize the negative consequences of the extravasation.
